The Dude abides
Jeff Bridges has returned as The Dude from The Big Lebowski in a new advert, and he’s joined by Sex & The City‘s Carrie Bradshaw.
After teasing his return last week, the appearance was today confirmed to be an advert for Stella Artois in the run-up to the Super Bowl next weekend.
In the clip, Sarah Jessica Parker’s iconic character causes great shock when she enters a bar and ditches her signature Cosmopolitan in favour of the popular Belgian lager.
The same occurs when The Dude enters only moments later. When asked if he wants a White Russian, he too opts for the beer – causing the bar to descend into instant chaos.
After sitting down, The Dude is complimented on his drink choice by Bradshaw, before he responds with the iconic catchphrase ‘The Dude Abides.’
It comes after Bridges tweeted the 15 second clip of himself once again in character last week.
Despite being an advert, Bridges has, previously spoken about playing the iconic character from the 1998 classic again, raising hopes there may be a full sequel to the original which also starred Steve Buscemi, John Goodman, Julianne Moore and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
For fans of the original film, the appearance, however brief, sparked lots of excitement.
In 2017, Digital Spy spoke to Bridges about whether he’d be willing to reprise the role for a sequel. He said: “I think whatever [the Coen] brothers think. If they want to do a sequel, I’m sure it’d be a cool thing,” he said.
“And like so many masters of their craft, they make it look like I was just rolling off lines. He’s just a silly stoner.” Bridges continued almost in-character: “But why do people keep looking at it, going…? You can see those scenes. I’m a guy who’d rarely or ever watch my movies on TV.”
