Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter confirm ‘Bill & Ted 3’ title and release date

The pair will reunite on screen next year - 29 years on from their last film together

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have confirmed more details about the long-awaited third Bill & Ted movie.

Winter and Reeves played the two titular characters respectively in two films, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991). A third movie has been in the works since at least 2013, but it was only officially green-lit back in May 2018.

The two leads appeared in a short video update which was posted online today (March 20) where they confirmed the title of the film, Bill & Ted Face the Music, and its release date: Aug. 21, 2020. The movie is directed by Galaxy Quest‘s Dean Parisot, with Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon – who wrote the first two movies – returning to pen the screenplay.

Introducing themselves as their characters’ band “Wyld Stallyns”, Reeves and Winter spoke in the clip, which was filmed at the iconic Hollywood Bowl, to update fans on the progress of Bill & Ted Face the Music.

“It looks like we might, actually, hopefully make the movie this summer,” the duo said when addressing their fans. “We want to say thank you, and be excellent.”

A synopsis for the upcoming film via EW reads: “To fulfil their rock & roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they’ll be helped by their families, old friends, and a few music legends.”
