Bill Murray working with Sofia Coppola on Christmas special for TV

The 'Lost In Translation' star will perform classic Christmas carols

Bill Murray will star in a Christmas special for American television directed by his Lost In Translation collaborator Sofia Coppola.

In Lost In Translation his character performed Roxy Music’s ‘More Than This’ at a karaoke bar. In Coppola’s TV special Murray will be performing classic Christmas carols.

Speaking in an interview with film trade magazine Variety, Murray revealed: “It’s not going to be live. We’re going to do it like a little movie. It won’t have a format, but it’s going to have music.”

He added: “It will have texture. It will have threads through it that are writing. There will be prose. It will have a patina style and wit to it. It will be nice.”

Coppola confirmed the project and stated: “We’re working on a Christmas special. Not sure when it will air, but my motivation is to hear him singing my song requests.”

In his next film St Vincent, Murray’s character Vincent is a subdued Vietnam veteran with a drink problem and a penchant for gambling and strip clubs. When Maggie (Melissa McCarthy, Bridesmaids) moves in next-door, Vincent becomes the most unlikely of child minders when he takes the chance to earn a few bucks and look after her son Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) in a quirky coming of age tale.

In the latest clip released from the film, the Groundhog Day star sings along to Bob Dylan’s ‘Shelter from the Storm’. St. Vincent is released in cinemas December 5. Watch the trailer below.
