Titled 'The Canyons', the already notorious movie stars Lohan and porn actor James Deen
Lindsay Lohan‘s new movie The Canyons has reportedly been rejected by this year’s South By Southwest music and film festival.
The Canyons marks the screenwriting debut of Bret Easton Ellis (pictured), the controversial author of American Psycho and Less Than Zero. The film is billed as a “contemporary LA noir… about the dangers of sexual obsession and ambition, both personally and professionally, among a group of young people in their twenties”.
The film has already attracted plenty of attention thanks to the provocative combination of Easton Ellis, Lohan and porn actor James Deen, who co-stars opposite the actress. However, it has no release date yet and apparently failed to win a place at this month’s Sundance Film Festival.
Now South By Southwest, which takes place in Austin, Texas in March, has reportedly rejected it too. A festival insider is said to have told The Hollywood Reporter that the film has “quality issues” and added: “It’s got an ugliness and a deadness to it.”
Directed by Paul Schrader, best known as the screenwriter behind Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, The Canyons reached its production budget thanks to contributions on fundraising website Kickstarter. Shooting took place in LA over the summer and Lohan’s erratic behaviour on and off set has recently been chronicled in a memorable New York Times article.
