Bret McKenzie to write new songs for ‘The Muppets’ sequel

'Man Or Muppet', a song from the last movie, won the Flight of the Conchords star an Oscar

Flight Of The Conchords star Bret McKenzie is to write new songs for the next Muppets movie.

McKenzie served as music supervisor on 2011’s The Muppets and wrote three new songs for the film. One of them, ‘Man Or Muppet’, would go on to win McKenzie the Best Original Song award at this year’s Oscars.

Speaking to Collider, The Muppets producer Todd Lieberman confirmed that McKenzie will be back for the sequel. Lieberman also revealed that the new Muppets movie will be shot at Pinewood Studios early next year (2013) and filming will take place “in and around London”.

Released last November (2011), The Muppets was the first big screen outing for Kermit and the gang in 12 years. The film, which starred Jason Segel and Amy Adams, grossed over $158 million (£98 million) worldwide and Disney confirmed a sequel this April.

The sequel is being scripted by James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, who co-wrote last year’s hit reboot with star Jason Segel. However, Segel is not set to return. Earlier this month (November 2012), it was reported that Christoph Waltz will star in the sequel as an Interpol agent.
