The first reactions to Captain America: Civil War have appeared online and suggest Marvel’s latest blockbuster is a hit.
Though full reviews remain under embargo, film journalists who attended the first preview screening in Los Angeles last night (April 8) were allowed to post brief reactions on social media.
One journalist declared Civil War “my favourite Marvel movie”, while two more called the film “a blast” and another declared it “very unexpected and very good”.
Meanwhile, the new Spider-Man played by young British actor Tom Holland, who makes his debut in the film, was hailed as “amazing” and “the greatest ever put to screen”.

Thrilled to say that Captain America Civil War is a blast. Works great as a Cap 2 AND MCU sequel, and has Marvel's best action scene yet.

I honestly don't know how Civil War works. There's so much going on but it does. Spidey is AMAZING. Made me smile & laugh till my face hurt

So to wrap it up: it's not perfect, but it's a blast. Better than Age of Ultron. Not as cohesive as Winter Soldier. #CaptainAmericaCivilWar

The Marvel blockbuster opens in the UK on April 29, ahead of release in the US on May 6.
Chris Evans returns as Captain America in the film, joined by Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Robert Downey Jr ‘s Iron Man, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany’s The Vision, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Don Cheadle’s War Machine.
Marvel’s plot synopsis for the upcoming film teases: “Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity.
“After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.”
