Charlize Theron wanted for villain role in ‘Fast & Furious 8’

The next car chase sequel races into cinemas in April 2017

Charlize Theron is reportedly wanted for a key role in the next Fast & Furious film.

Next year’s Fast & Furious 8 will have a “fierce female villain”, Deadline reports, and the Oscar-winning Monster actress is said to be favoured by director F. Gary Gray and screenwriter Chris Morgan.

However, according to film industry sources, Theron has yet to see the film’s script or receive any kind of formal offer. Theron showed off her action chops in last year’s Mad Max: Fury Road, which has been nominated for 10 Oscars.

Earlier this month (February) Vin Diesel confirmed release dates for the next three Fast & Furious movies. Fast & Furious 8 will race into cinemas on April 14, 2017, followed by Fast & Furious 9 on April 14, 2017 and Fast & Furious 10 on April 2, 2021.

Diesel previously revealed that the Fast & Furious franchise will end with “one last trilogy”, meaning that according to current plans. 2010’s Fast & Furious 10 will be its final instalment.

After opening in cinemas earlier this year, Fast & Furious 7 became the franchise’s most successful outing yet, grossing over $1.516 billion (£1.05 billion) at the global box office. That total places the car chase sequel sixth on the all-time list behind Avatar, Titanic, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World and Marvel’s The Avengers.
