A sequel to Chicken Run is in the works, 18 years after the animated film was originally released.
The film, which starred Mel Gibson and Julia Sawalha, followed a group of chickens as they attempted to launch a desperate escape from a Yorkshire poultry farm.
Now, it’s been confirmed that a sequel is in the works, with original writers Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell returning to create the next chapter in the adventures of the plucky poultry.
It’s also set to be directed by Sam Fell, who previously directed Flushed Away, Aardman’s 2007 collaboration with Dreamworks.
Although specific details of the sequel are yet to be revealed, the film will go into production at Aardman’s Bristol HQ after the studio wraps on Shaun The Sheep 2.
There’s currently no word on whether the original cast, including Gibson and Sawalha, will make their return.
Upon release, Chicken Run garnered widespread critical acclaim and went on to become the highest grossing stop-motion film after taking $224.8m (£161.3m) at the box office.
