Director Bryan Singer will start shooting 'X-Men: Apocalypse' next spring for a May 2016 release
Chloe Moretz and EastEnders actor Ben Hardy are reportedly in the running for roles in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Kick-Ass star Moretz is said to be in the frame to play the young Jean Grey, though she apparently faces competition from Elle Fanning and True Grit‘s Hailee Steinfeld. Jean Grey was previously played on screen five times by Famke Janssen.
Meanwhile, Hardy – who plays Peter Beale on the BBC soap, but is due to leave Albert Square when his contract runs out – is being eyed up to play the young Cyclops, TheWrap reports. His competition for the high-profile role is said to come from Timothee Chalamet, who plays Matthew McConaughey’s son in Interstellar, and up-and-coming British actor Charlie Rowe. James Marsden played Cyclops in four previous X-Men movies.
Bryan Singer was confirmed to return as director for X-Men: Apocalypse back in September. Singer was also behind the camera for the first two X-Men films and this year’s Days Of Future Past, which became the franchise’s most successful performer yet, taking $746 million (£475 million) at the worldwide box office. It merged the original X-Men cast with their younger counterparts from director Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 instalment X-Men: First Class in a time-travelling race to save humanity.
Singer is set to start shooting X-Men: Apocalypse next spring for a scheduled release date of May 27, 2016.
