Chris Pine signs up for ‘Horrible Bosses 2’

He'll play one of the horrible bosses in the comedy sequel

Chris Pine has signed up to play one of the bosses in Horrible Bosses 2.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s makers New Line had hoped Pine would appear alongside Christoph Waltz in a father-son duo, but Waltz passed on the role. New Line is now in the process of casting the other horrible bosses.

Pine is the film’s fourth confirmed cast member after original trio Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis, who are all reprising their roles from the 2011 original. Made for a modest $35 million (£23 million), the hit comedy went on to gross nearly $210 million (£135 million) at cinemas worldwide and a sequel was confirmed in January of last year (2012).

Original Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon had been due to return but dropped out in August due to scheduling difficulties. Sean Anders, one of the writers of this year’s We’re The Millers, which also starred Sudeikis, then took over the director’s chair and started shooting the sequel on September 12. Bateman marked the occasion by tweeting a picture of the original trio on set.

Horrible Bosses 2 has a script by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who penned the original film with a third screenwriter, Michael Markowitz, but exact plot details are currently unknown. New Line has recently announced that the film will open in the US on November 26, 2014 – the Friday of next year’s Thanksgiving Day weekend. The UK release date has yet to be confirmed but the original Horrible Bosses arrived in British cinemas just two weeks after its American debut.
