Christoph Waltz in talks to play villain in new ‘Tarzan’ movie starring Alexander Skarsgård

Reboot from 'Harry Potter' director David Yates could start shooting next summer (2014)

Christoph Waltz is in talks to play the villain in the forthcoming Tarzan reboot starring True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgård.

Details on the character are sketchy at present but Variety reports that Waltz would play a military man who crosses paths with Skarsgård’s Tarzan.

Tarzan’s Jane has yet to be cast but Emma Stone and Margot Robbie (Neighbours, Pan Am) are said to be on a shortlist of actresses being considered for the role. David Yates, who helmed the final four Harry Potter films, is on board as director.

At present, the film is still awaiting a green light but Variety reports that this could come in November. Yates is said to be aiming to start shooting next summer (2014).

Tarzan, a character created by American author Edward Rice Burroughs, last swung into cinemas in 1999 in an animated Disney movie. Over the years, he has been portrayed on screen by numerous actors, including Johnny Weissmuller, Christopher Lambert and Casper Van Dien.

Meanwhile, Waltz collected his second Best Supporting Actor Oscar earlier this year (2013) for his performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. His work in another Tarantino movie, Inglourious Basterds, won him his first Oscar in 2010.
