What If sees Radcliffe play Wallace, a medical school drop-out who meets Chantry (Kazan), falls for her and then discovers she has a boyfriend. He decides to pursue a friendship with her though and must then navigate the complicated feelings he has for his friend.
The film also stars British actor Rafe Spall as Chantry’s boyfriend (seen punching Wallace in the trailer) and Girls and Star Wars actor Adam Drive as Wallace’s friend who promotes “100 percent honesty” while failing to maintain the same standards in his own relationship.
Since leaving the hugely successful Harry Potter franchise, Daniel Radcliffe has starred in The Woman in Black and Kill Your Darlings. What If marks his first romantic comedy. Meanwhile, Zoe Kazan made her name in 2012 film Ruby Sparks, which she wrote and starred in.
What If is adapted by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi’s play and directed by Goon director Michael Dowse, It hits cinemas on August 22.
