A new Halloween-themed trailer for Despicable Me 2 has been released – scroll down to watch it.

The spooky teaser stars the popular Minions from the first computer animated movie. It gives very little away, but hints at a possible alien abduction storyline for the sequel.

Released in 2010, Despicable Me centred on a super-villain called Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, who hatches a plan to shrink and steal the Moon. The film’s impressive voice cast also included Russell Brand, Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig and Miranda Cosgrove. The film was a major success at the box office, grossing over $534 million (£336 million) worldwide.

Plot details for the sequel are being kept under wraps. Carell will reprise his role as Gru, while Brand, Wiig and Cosgrove are also confirmed to return. Joining the voice ensemble are Al Pacino, who will play Gru’s nemesis, and Steve Coogan, whose part has yet to be revealed.

Despicable Me 2 will be released in UK cinemas on June 28 next year, before opening in the US on July 3. The Minions will then star in their own spin-off movie, due in December 2014.
