Details of Quentin Tarantino’s shelved ‘The Hateful Eight’ project revealed

Michael Madsen and Samuel L. Jackson were likely to be involved

Details of Quentin Tarantino‘s shelved western The Hateful Eight have been revealed.

It was reported earlier this month that Tarantino had [url=https://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/quentin-tarantino-ditches-the-hateful-eight-due-to/329670=halted work on the project[/url] due to a script leak. Now, The Wrap has revealed the filmmaker’s plans for the flick, which they say would have been split into five chapters with the action largely revolving around two settings: a stagecoach and a haberdashery.

The film, which Tarantino was also planning on shooting on 70mm, would focus on two bounty hunters who were likely to have been portrayed by Samuel L Jackson and Michael Madsen. The pair, who would target the town of Red Rock, would then eventually take shelter from a blizzard in the haberdashery, where they confront a group led by a Southern general – a part which Bruce Dern was being lined up for.

Tarantino was reportedly livid after he gave the script for The Hateful Eight to six people only for his agent, Mike Simpson, to begin fielding phone calls from agents trying to land their clients roles in the film. Describing the leak as a “betrayal”, he said: “I’m very, very depressed. I finished a script, a first draft, and I didn’t mean to shoot it until next winter, a year from now. I gave it to six people, and apparently it’s gotten out today.”

Tarantino had originally revealed his plans to shoot a Western film as his next project in November last year. His last film, Django Unchained, was a critical and commercial hit upon its 2012 release and subsequently won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, with Christoph Waltz pick up the Best Supporting Actor gong.
