Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’ movie gets official release date

The Marvel superhero movie will arrive in November 2015 - after 'The Avengers 2'

Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios have set an official release date for the Ant-Man movie.

The superhero film, based on a comic book character who has close connections with The Avengers, will open in cinemas on November 6 2015. This schedules Ant-Man after Marvel’s new Iron Man, Thor and Captain America movies, as well as The Avengers 2, which is due in May 2015.

Ant-Man will be helmed by Edgar Wright, the British director known for his long-running partnership with Simon Pegg. The script is being written by Wright with Attack The Block director Joe Cornish.

In the original Marvel comic books, Ant-Man is the alter ego of Dr Hank Pym, a scientist who invents a shrinking serum that makes him insect size. Once miniature, he is able to solve mysteries and take out bad guys. Ant-Man has never appeared on screen before, but there are rumours that he could feature in The Avengers 2 before he stars in his own movie.

Wright screened Ant-Man test footage at the San Diego Comic Con Festival in July (2012), but will not begin shooting the movie until he completes The World’s End, his latest project with Pegg. The film is a loose follow-up to the pair’s previous collaborations, Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz.

The World’s End, which stars Pegg, Nick Frost and Martin Freeman, began filming in Hertfordshire last month (September 2012) and is scheduled for release in August 2013.
