Six-part series 'Music Box With Guy Garvey' will launch on iPlayer in July
Elbow’s Guy Garvey is to host a new fortnightly music show exclusively on BBC iPlayer.
Titled Music Box With Guy Garvey, the six-part series will find the Elbow frontman discussing the artists, old and new, that he is “most excited about” each fortnight. Acts set to feature in the series include Here We Go Magic, This Is The Kit, Songhoy Blues, Little Dragon, Tune-Yards and Villagers.
The BBC promises that the show will feature “exclusive and unseen footage, from musical performances to brand-new videos as well as backstage interviews with Guy’s chosen artists”. Meanwhile, “Guy will also delve into the BBC’s archive to curate a selection of classic performances”. Each fortnight he will be joined by a different member of the BBC Music team, with Lauren Laverne, Cerys Matthews, Tom Ravenscroft and Bob Harris all set to appear during the series.
“We are a nation of music lovers and the show is specifically designed to connect people with great music that they may not have the time to go and find during their daily lives. In an extension of the spirit of curation that BBC Radio 6 Music lives by, I am literally showcasing the music I think will one day be worthy of the word ‘classic’,” Garvey explained in a press release.
“It’s a chance to raid the BBC archives and showcase music videos old and new whilst continuing alongside shows like Later… With Jools Holland, All Shook Up, and of course BBC Introducing, to spread the word and connect artists with a wider audience. I’m really proud to have this opportunity, as the way music is discovered has changed. It’s not that easy for new artists to break through, and platforms like these will hopefully lead people to find their new favourite music. Great for the listener. Essential for the artist.”
