Fans think the next MCU villain has been teased within Avengers: Endgame.
The latest Avengers movie, which was released last week (April 25), marked the end of the current generation of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Since the film’s release, fans have been trying to find clues for what comes next within it and some reckon the Russo brothers may have dropped a big hint about the next villain.
During Avengers: Endgame, Okoye (played by Danai Gurira) mentions an underwater earthquake that took place off the coast of Africa to Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). When pressed by Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), she explains Wakanda isn’t planning on doing anything about the incident.
The moment comes between Captain Marvel and Black Widow talking about whales in the Hudson River. Viewers have speculated that those water-themed references could suggest Namor The Sub-Mariner is set to make an appearance in the next Marvel movie.
“When Okoye was talking about an earthquake under the sea. I think it was really hinting at Namor the Sub-Mariner whose going to introduce everyone to the Elementals,” wrote one Twitter user. “And those will big the big baddies.”
Another tweeted: “Okoye: mentions an earthquake underneath the ocean. my ass, desperate to see Bob M in the MCU: Namor reference??? Namor the Sub-Mariner??? Please???”
See those reactions below.
Namor The Sub-Mariner first made an appearance in the Marvel world in 1939 and has been a part of the Defenders, the Avengers, the Invaders, and more.
In a five-star review, NME said of Avengers: Endgame: “It is an astonishing action movie, with a final hour that keeps ratcheting up the crowd-pleasing sequences in a mega-battle filled with so many characters that we should probably take a moment to give thanks to the poor people who had to coordinate the schedules of countless A-listers.”
