Female-led ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ reboot release date announced

Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett and more to star in ’Ocean’s 8’

A reboot of the Ocean’s Eleven film series featuring a female-led cast will arrive in cinemas next year.

Ocean’s Eight’s all-star cast includes Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter.

The Gary Ross-helmed film is scheduled to begin production this month in New York with a summer 2017 release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The reboot has reportedly been in the works for around a year, with George Clooney, star of the recent Ocean’s trilogy, and Steven Soderbergh, the director of those films, both involved in initiating the project.

Clooney could cameo as Danny Ocean in the reboot, which will be directed by Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, the first Hunger Games film). The Playlist reports that screenwriter Olivia Milch (Little Women) has already completed a draft of its script.

Clooney starred opposite actors including Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and Don Cheadle in Soderbergh’s 2001 Ocean’s Eleven film and a pair of successful sequels which followed in 2004 and 2007. The 2001 film was itself a remake of a 1960 heist movie starring five members of the so-called Hollywood ‘Rat Pack’ including Frank Sinatra.
