The third trailer for Assassin’s Creed was unveiled on Friday (December 9), which saw Jeremy Irons – who plays Alan Rikkin – explain the film’s backstory: an artifact by the name of the Apple of Eden – which can apparently prevent future violence – is being sought by Rikkin’s Abstergo Industries, and convicted criminal Callum Lynch (Fassbender) is the only surviving link back to when it was known to be in existence.

Lynch is plugged into the Animus, which connects him with the memories of his ancestor Aguilar de Nerha – an assassin who was alive at the time of the Spanish Inquisition 500 years ago – and he is tasked with finding the artifact before it is too late.

Assassin’s Creed is released in the UK on January 1. Watch its third and final trailer below.

Directed by Justin Kurzel, the film will also star Brendan Gleeson, Michael K. Williams and Charlotte Rampling.
