Tom Cruise returns for a fifth adventure as Ethan Hunt on July 31
The final trailer for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation has been released ahead of the film’s release next month – watch it below.
Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) directs the fifth Mission: Impossible film from a script by Iron Man 3‘s Drew Pearce and newcomer Will Staples. JJ Abrams serves as one of the film’s producers. Tom Cruise heads up a cast that includes Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris and up-and-coming Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson.
During a recent Twitter Q&A McQuarrie revealed that Sean Harris – who portrayed Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in 2002’s 24 Hour Party People – is playing the sequel’s villain and promised that Simon Pegg’s character Benji Dunn “gets his hands plenty dirty” during the film. He also explained that Paula Patton and Maggie Q did not reprise their roles from previous Mission: Impossible movies because both actresses were “unavailable”.
In January Paramount Pictures moved forward the release date of Rogue Nation to summer 2015. The fifth Mission: Impossible film had been scheduled to open on Christmas Day in the US and Boxing Day in the UK, but will now arrive on July 31, five months earlier than originally planned.
The franchise’s previous instalment, 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol became the most successful yet after raking in nearly $700 million (£465 million) at the box office worldwide.
