The trailer begins with a fight scene between Aaron Johnson‘s Kick-Ass and Chloe Moretz’s Hit-Girl and features several glimpses of Colonel Stars And Stripes, the new character played by Jim Carrey. According to the sequel’s plot synopsis, Kick-Ass teams up with the Colonel to battle Red Mist, the character who betrayed him in the first film.

Based on a comic book by Mark Millar, the first film told the story of an ordinary teenager who reinvents himself as a real-life superhero called Kick-Ass. When it hit cinemas in 2010, Kick Ass was not a huge box office success, but it’s since built a strong following on DVD and Blu-ray.

Directed by Jeff Wadlow, who also wrote the script based on Millar’s Kick-Ass 2 comic book, the sequel was shot in Toronto between September and November last year (2012). Reporting from the set at the time, Millar teased that Kick-Ass 2 will feature an “astonishing” fight scene starring Moretz’s Hit-Girl.

The film’s cast also includes John Leguizamo, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and former Scrubs actor Donald Faison. It opens in the UK on July 19.
