The third instalment in the supernatural horror series is conceived as a prequel to the first two
The first trailer for Insidious: Chapter 3 has premiered online.
The third film in the supernatural horror series is conceived as a prequel to 2010’s Insidious and 2013’s Insidious: Chapter 2. Consequently, Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins have not reprised their roles as the terrorised members of the Lambert family, though Lin Shaye has returned as paranormal investigator Elise Rainier.
Angus Sampson and franchise creator Leigh Whannell return too, reprising their roles as Rainier’s fellow paranormal investigators Tucker and Specs. They are joined by new cast members Dermot Mulroney and Disney Channel star Stefanie Scott.
Whannell, writer of the first two Insidious films, makes his directorial debut with the third instalment and once again penned the script. The film’s official synopsis teases: “This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.”
Insidious: Chapter 3 opens in UK cinemas on June 5.
