The first trailer for the new Romeo and Juliet movie has been released. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.

This adaptation promises to offer a more traditional take on Shakespeare’s classic story than Baz Luhrmann‘s 1996 film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The new movie has a script by Downton Abbey writer Julian Fellowes.

Juliet is played by Hailee Steinfeld, best known for her break-out role in the Coen Brothers’ True Grit. British actor Douglas Booth, who portrayed Boy George in a 2010 BBC2 biopic, co-stars as Romeo.

The film’s cast also includes Homeland‘s Damian Lewis, Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl and Paul Giamatti. All appear in the trailer, which features suitably haunting music from Zola Jesus.

Director Carlo Carlei shot Romeo And Juliet at various locations in his native Italy last spring (2012). The film opens in UK cinemas on July 26.
