The filmmaker's latest project examines American politics since Trump's presidential election
The first trailer for Michael Moore’s new documentary, Fahrenheit 11/9, has been released.
The film is the latest project from the Bowling For Columbine documentary-maker and examines the state of American politics in the wake of Trump’s election as US President.
In the trailer, Moore can be heard asking: “How the fuck did this happen?” It also features two of the Parkland massacre survivors, David Hogg and Emma González, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old Democratic candidate who won New York’s House Of Representatives election earlier this year. Watch the trailer below.
Fahrenheit 11/9 is due for release in cinemas in North America on September 21. There is currently no release date confirmed for the UK. The title is a play on Moore’s 2004 film Fahrenheit 9/11 and references the date of the 2016 US election.
Speaking about the documentary last year, the filmmaker said: “No matter what you throw at him, it hasn’t worked. No matter what is revealed, he remains standing. Facts, reality, brains cannot defeat him. Even when he commits a self-inflicted wound, he gets up the next morning and keeps going and tweeting. That all ends with this movie.”
In October 2017, Moore’s Trump-bashing Broadway show The Terms Of My Surrender closed after earning a reported $4.2 million (£3.3 million). Trump criticised the production on Twitter after its run ended, writing: “While not at all presidential I must point out that the Sloppy Michael Moore Show on Broadway was a TOTAL BOMB and was forced to close. Sad!”
Moore responded: “You must have my smash hit of a Broadway show confused with your presidency– which IS a total bomb and WILL indeed close early. NOT SAD.”
