Cult US TV show will step-up to the big-screen this month (March 2014)

The opening two minutes of the Veronica Mars movie have been released online – click below to watch.

The film, which is set to open this month (March 12), will find the film’s title character, played by actress Kristen Bell, returning to her native California to investigate a murder.

Veronica Mars was cancelled after three seasons in 2006, but show creator Rob Thomas subsequently wrote a script for a full-length film project. He was initially unable to secure funding, but the idea of reviving the show for a one-off film refused to die and in March last year, Bell and Thomas teamed up to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise the $2 million (£1.3 million) production budget.

The campaign ended up raising over $5.7 million (£3.7 million) and shooting on the movie is due to begin today (June 17). Alongside Bell, a raft of original Veronica Mars cast members including Chris Lowell, Sam Huntington, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III and Logan Echolls are all confirmed to return.
