Glenn Close joins Marvel’s new superhero movie ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

She'll apparently take a 'leadership role' similar to Samuel L Jackson in 'The Avengers'

Glenn Close is the latest big name to sign up for Marvel’s new superhero movie Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Guardians Of The Galaxy will follow a team of superheroes – including Star-Lord, Drax The Destroyer and Rocket Raccoon – who appear in a 2008 comic book series of the same name. Marvel is hoping the film will kickstart another big screen franchise like The Avengers.

According to Deadline, Close will appear in a “leadership role” roughly equivalent to Nick Fury, the character played by Samuel L Jackson in The Avengers. She joins a swelling ensemble cast that already includes Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt from Parks And Recreation, The Walking Dead‘s Michael Rooker and John C Reilly.

The film is being directed by James Gunn, whose previous credits include Super, the 2010 superhero comedy starring Ellen Page and Rainn Wilson. Shooting is due to begin next month (June) and Marvel has set a release date of August 1, 2014.

Close, 66, notched up her fifth Oscar nomination for her most recent film role as a 19th century cross-dressing butler in Albert Nobbs. She’s currently shooting an indie romcom called 5 To 7 with Star Trek‘s Anton Yelchin and Frost/Nixon actor Frank Langella.
