Film will feature 'the biggest historic battle that's ever been'
Ridley Scott has released a new look behind the scenes on his latest epic Exodus: Gods and Kings.
The director shows us the challenges of recreating “the biggest historic battle that’s ever been” in what he calls “a colossal endeavour”.
The film stars Christian Bale (The Dark Knight) as Moses, the Egyptian leader who defied his brother, the Pharaoh Ramses, played by Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom).
Speaking about the film’s special effects and epic scale, Scott has revealed: ”I felt there was a beauty to the massive scale of the material… You’re working with at least 700 crew plus the 4,000 extras. And, of course, the armies will be expanded exponentially – 4,000 will be tiled and grown into 20,000.”
The story follows the brothers’ conflict and the exodus of 600,000 slaves led by Moses on a monumental journey of escape from an Egypt tormented by deadly plagues.
Also starring Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul, alongside Ben Kingsley and Sigourney Weaver, Exodus: Gods and Kings is released in cinemas on December 26. Watch the behind the scenes featurette below.
The Gladiator director is currently in pre-production on his next film The Martian scheduled for release next year. It will star Matt Damon as an astronaut struggling to survive after being stranded on Mars.
