New movie 'The Internship' shoots scenes at Google's 26-acre corporate campus in California
Google’s California headquarters recently became a film set for a new comedy starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
The Internship is the actors’ first project together since 2005’s The Wedding Crashers. Written by Vaughn, it tells the story of two men in their forties who try to make it as interns at a web company after being made redundant.
The film is being directed by Shawn Levy, whose previous credits include Night At The Museum and Date Night. Last week, Levy’s crew was granted access to Googleplex, the company’s 26-acre corporate campus in the San Francisco Bay Area.
According to Slate, the site was used for external shots, but it was deemed too disruptive to allow the crew to take over working offices, so the company’s marketing team consulted with set designers to create mock “Google offices” elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Google chairman Eric Schmidt agreed to film a cameo, giving Vaughn’s character an “employee talk”, while numerous Google staff members were used as extras. The Internship, which also stars Will Ferrell, John Goodman and Rose Byrne, is scheduled for release in August next year (2013).
