This is pretty cool.
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has shared a new edition of the ‘Awesome Mix’ that originated in the Marvel films.
In both of the Guardians films, the Awesome Mix is the playlist that Peter Quill listens to while facing off against a series of intergalactic threats.
But Gunn has now shared the ‘Vol 0’ mix, and it’s a brilliantly unique selection of the songs he listened to on set, including offerings from The Wombats, Andrew W.K. and My Chemical Romance.
Check out the playlist in full below.
This is the mix I made to listen to while filming the first Guardians of the Galaxy. It played all the time while we were shooting the bar scene in the Boot of Jemiah on Knowhere.
Later this year, The Guardians will make their Avengers debut in Avengers: Infinity War, before their third team outing follows in 2020.
Gunn previously said the film would be “[catapulting] both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years”.
It’s likely that the third film in the Guardians trilogy will be the launchpad for what Marvel is calling ‘Phase 4’ – this means the next big chunk of Marvel films – which includes Black Panther, Infinity War and the fourth Avengers film.
It is also expected that the team will face off against Adam Warlock, a villain who has appeared in several Marvel films.
