Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo Del Toro has signed on to direct and produce a new adaptation of Beauty And The Beast.
According to Variety, Del Toro has agreed to direct the film, which is set to simply be titled Beast. The film will be written by Bridget Jones’s Diary writer Andrew Davies.
The film is set to star Harry Potter actress Emma Watson and will go into production later this year. Watson will next be seen in an adaptation of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.
Guillermo Del Toro, who left the director’s chair of The Hobbit after filming delays, is currently at the helm of Pacific Rim. He has also acted as executive producer of new films Mama and Rise Of The Guardians.
Beauty And The Beast was most recently adapted for the big screen in 2011, with Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer starring in a teen film version titled Beastly.
