Harrison Ford reveals details for new ‘Star Wars’ Disneyland theme park extensions

"Star Wars is, for lack of a better word, awesome" said Ford.

Harrison Ford has publicly announced the details for Disney’s new Star Wars extensions at their theme parks, it has been revealed today (February 22).

The theme parks – counting Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida and Disneyland in Anaheim, California – would receive huge extensions to the parks’ layouts.

Disney famously bought the franchise from it’s original owner and creator, George Lucas, in 2012 for $4.05 billion.

According to Digital Spy, the theme park will contain two main attraction rides – including a Millennium Falcon ride – plus park attendees will also have the chance to interact with alien characters and buy Star Wars merchandise.

“I’m so blessed that I had the opportunity to be a part of it. To walk in these iconic locations…” says Harrison in the above video. “And soon” he continues, “you’ll be able to do that as well. Not in a galaxy far, far away, but in a place close to home.”

The areas, which will both form part of Disney’s existing theme parks, will be 14 acres, the largest single-themed park expansions in the company’s history.

Thomas Staggs, the Disney COO, did not say when they would open, but Disney Chairman and Chief Exec Robert Iger revealed details about what the parks would contain earlier in the year.

Visitors will be able to take control of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s spaceship, and undertake a “customised secret mission.” They will also be able to visit a Star Wars cantina, among other immersive experiences.

“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” Iger said. “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever.

“These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
