‘Harry Potter’ author JK Rowling writing novel for adults

Bestselling writer is moving in a new direction on new project

JK Rowling has announced plans for a new novel, this time for adults.

The Harry Potter writer, who sold over 400 million books throughout the series, is shifting her focus with her first writing project since hanging up the wizard’s wand.

Rowling has signed a new deal with new publisher Little, Brown for her adult output in the UK and US, according to The Guardian. Her Harry Potter books were published by Bloomsbury.

Rowling said of today’s announcement: “Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series… The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher.

“I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”

However, secrecy surrounds the project, with no details revealed other than that book is not written for children. The title, publication and further details being stored up for an announcement later this year.

The Harry Potter film series – based on Rowling’s novels – is the highest-grossing film series of all-time, with $7.7 billion in worldwide receipts. The first film in the series, Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, was released in 2001. The final instalment was released on 15 July 2011.
