Renner defends his 'Avengers' character with a special version of Sheeran's chart-topping ballad
Avengers: Age Of Ultron star Jeremy Renner covered Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon yesterday (April 28) – with specially rewritten lyrics.
After taking to the piano, the actor proceeded to outline a heartfelt defence of his character in the Avengers films, bow-and-arrow-wielding superhero Hawkeye, who may not initially seem as powerful as some of his teammates.
“When you’re on a team with the Hulk and Thor /And we’re all up there on the movie screen / Will the people believe that I’m not quite as tough? / Will anyone even notice me?” Renner sang to the melody of ‘Thinking Out Loud’, before continuing: “But listen I’ve got powers too, they’re pretty sweet / I promise I can do so much more than just archery.”
Renner appears as Hawkeye in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which was released in the UK last Thursday (April 23) and opens in US cinemas on Friday (May 1). Read the NME review here.
Sheeran’s original version of ‘Thinking Out Loud’, which appears on the singer-songwriter’s second album ‘x’, peaked at Number One on the UK’s Official Singles Chart and at Number Two on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
