Helena Bonham Carter to play fairy godmother in Disney’s new ‘Cinderella’ movie

She joins Cate Blanchett and Lily James in the cast of the live-action remake

Helena Bonham Carter has been cast as the fairy godmother in Disney’s new live-action Cinderella movie.

The actress joins a cast that includes Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Game Of Thrones‘ Richard Madden as the prince. Downton Abbey actress Lily James will star as Cinderella after Emma Watson turned the role down.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fairy godmother will have more screen time in the new live-action movie than she did in Disney’s 1950 animated classic. She apparently disguises herself as a humble beggar before revealing her true wand-waving identity to Cinders.

Kenneth Branagh is signed up to direct the new Cinderella movie and shooting is due to begin this autumn in London.

Meanwhile, Bonham Carter will soon be seen in The Lone Ranger, Disney’s new blockbuster western starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer, which opens in cinemas on July 3. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch the trailer.
