Superman actor describes the unwanted physical manifestation of arousal as 'very embarrassing'
Superman actor Henry Cavill has admitted he once got an erection while shooting a sex scene.
The “very embarrassing” manifestation of physical arousal occurred while the actor was working on US historical drama series The Tudors, which he starred in from 2007 to 2010.
“It’s only happened to me once, and it was very embarrassing,” the actor recalled in a new interview. “A girl had to be on top of me, she had spectacular breasts, and I hadn’t rearranged my… stuff into a harmless position. She’s basically rubbing herself all over me and, um, it got a bit hard.”
“I had to apologise profusely afterward,” Cavill continued. “It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a boner, is it? No, not acceptable.”
In the interview with Men’s Fitness, Cavill – whose latest film The Man From U.N.C.L.E. opens in cinemas this Friday (August 14) – went on to discuss the intense awkwardness of filming sex scenes generally.
“It’s actually acutely uncomfortable being naked in a roomful of people,” he said. “The very last thing it is is sexy. The actual physicality is very uncomfortable. All you’re doing is smacking your nuts against someone, and nothing is going in.”
Cavill stars opposite Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., which Guy Ritchie co-wrote and directed based on the classic 1960s TV series of the same name. Watch the latest trailer here.
