A huge cameo has been confirmed by the writers of Deadpool 2 – warning major spoilers below.
Brad Pitt appears in a key scene in the movie as X-Force’s invisible member, the Vanisher.
As depicted in the movie’s parachute sequence, all the members of X-Force save for Deadpool and Domino die horrible deaths during their air drop. Vanisher flies into power lines where he’s lit up by electricity to reveal Brad Pitt’s face.
“The Brad Pitt idea came pretty late, originally you never saw Vanisher, he was just invisible the whole movie,” screenwriter Rhett Reese told IGN. “But then someone had the bright idea of, what about a celebrity cameo there? And we’re now in the business where we can actually pick up a phone and call people and they say yes, that wasn’t always, historically, the case for Deadpool.”
Reese added that the Fight Club star had personal reasons for agreeing to be in the film. “Brad Pitt’s kids love Deadpool, and he’s really nice, and he said he’d love to do it,” Reese said. “And we shot it in half an hour one day, he came over to the Fox lot and just knocked it out for us.”
Fellow screenwriter Paul Wernick also revealed that Pitt essentially did the whole cameo scene for free, shooting the scene “for scale and a cup of coffee, that was the deal. Not sure his agent was entirely happy about that.” Reese also joked that “(Pitt) said he wanted to make sure Ryan himself went to Starbucks to get the coffee.”
Meanwhile, two Deadpool fans were arrested at gun point in Switzerland this week after one of them turned up to a screening donning the full costume of the titular character.
The sequel to the Ryan Reynolds-starring 2016 film, is out now.
