Actor hints that 'X-Men' character Jean Grey will figure heavily in film - despite being dead...
Hugh Jackman has spoken about the plot details for his X-Men spin-off The Wolverine by hinting that former character Jean Grey will be a pivotal figure in the flick – despite being dead.
The film is set after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, in which Grey was killed, but Jackman says that her death and the impact on his character will be an important part of the movie.
According to MTV, he said:”There’s no doubt that the most important relationship in his life, we’ve seen through the movies, is his relationship with Jean Grey.”
Yes, we saw her die at the end of X-Men: The Last Stand. but in this movie, she has a presence which I think is vital to the movie, particularly for him confronting the most difficult thing within himself.
The first trailer for The Wolverine was released earlier this week. shows Jackman’s claw-sporting mutant jetting off to Japan, where a rich businessman offers him the chance to be mortal again and appropriately, it also features a glimpse of Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey in a flashback sequence.
A standalone Wolverine movie has been in the works since 2009, when Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wrestler) was set to direct. However, Aronofsky later dropped out and was replaced by Walk The Line director James Mangold, who shot the film in Sydney and Japan last year.
Alongside Jackman, the film stars Svetlana Khodchenkova from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and model-turned-actress Tao Okamoto, both of whom appear in the trailer. The Wolverine is scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas on July 25.
Jackman has already made five appearances as Wolverine in X-Men movies, including an uncredited cameo in 2011’s X Men: First Class. Director Bryan Singer has recently confirmed that Jackman’s Wolverine will also appear in the next film, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, which begins filming next month (April).
