'Ryan is relentless!'
Hugh Jackman has responded to Ryan Reynolds’ attempts to establish a Deadpool and Wolverine crossover film, saying that he doesn’t believe the public are interested.
In an interview with People, Jackman said: “Ryan is relentless. He keeps coming back to me in all these ways, shapes and forms, I just said, ‘You know, I just don’t think the world really wants to see Deadpool with Wolverine.’ Maybe a cameo from Deadpool? I just think it runs over it for Deadpool.”
Jackman also said that he believes Wolverine will appear in another film, but not with him playing the part.
Reynolds has been vocal about his desire to set up a crossover for some time, and specifically wants Jackman to play Wolverine, despite the Australian’s retirement from the role following last year’s ‘Logan‘.
In May, Reynolds told Entertainment Weekly: “I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend.”
Jackman’s character died at the end of Logan, and Jackman has said that it will be his last film in the role. However Reynolds doesn’t see this as an obstacle.
“He’s alive and well in my timeline,” he explained. “There is a Logan running around out there with a little bushy chest and his little sharpy, sharpy claws, and he is alive and well and ready to go. I would love that.”
The two characters have appeared together already on film, in 2009’s poorly-received X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds also interrupted a video of Jackman thanking his fans on his birthday, in character as Deadpool.
It’s not the first time Jackman has had to respond to Reynolds’ badgering. Earlier this year he appeared on ‘Good Morning America’ with a message for his fellow actor:
“You’re one of my best friends. Blake [Lively, Reynolds’ wife], the fam, the whole thing. But back it up a little. Play a little hard to get. It’s too much; it’s not sexy.”
