Imogen Poots ‘in talks’ to join The Lonely Island’s spoof music documentary film

It's apparently being conceived as a spoof of soft docs like Justin Bieber's 'Never Say Never'

British actress Imogen Poots is set to join the cast of The Lonely Island’s currently untitled feature film.

According to TheWrap, the Need For Speed/Filth actress is “in talks” to play the love interest of the rapper character being played by Andy Samberg. Though the film is supposed to be “top secret”, it was reported last week (May 15) that that it is being conceived as a send-up of “fluffy music documentaries” like Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never and Katy Perry’s Part Of Me. Samberg is said to be starring as a rapper who is forced to reunite with his former boyband when his latest rap album tanks.

The comedy music trio – Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone – started shooting the film in Los Angeles earlier this month (May). The film’s cast also includes Sarah Silverman, who will appear as the rapper’s long-suffering but quick-witted publicist, and Tim Meadows, who will play his frazzled manager. Schaffer and Taccone are directing the film with Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone serving as producers alongside Judd Apatow.

The Lonely Island first found success in the mid-00s when they were hired as Saturday Night Live writers and their videos for spoof songs like ‘Dick In A Box’, ‘Jizz In My Pants’ and ‘I Just Had Sex’ went viral online. They have now released three albums and collaborated with artists including Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj and Snoop Dogg.
