Rowling responds to an article comparing the controversial Republican to her famous villain
J.K. Rowling has shared her views on Donald Trump, branding him worse than Harry Potter’s evil nemesis Lord Voldemort.
After the BBC published an article explaining why the prospective Republican presidential candidate keeps being compared to Voldemort on Twitter, Rowling tweeted in response: “How horrible. Voldemort was nowhere near as bad.”
At the time of writing, her tweet has been retweeted more than 87,000 times.
Trump, the former host of the US version of The Apprentice who has an estimated net worth of $4.5 billion, has recently heightened an already controversial campaign by claiming that Muslims should be banned from entering the US “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on”.
Many figures from the worlds of music, film and TV have taken to Twitter to condemn his comments, with Charlotte Church branding Trump a “sith” and Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh likening him to “Hitler’s missing testicle”.
Meanwhile, Mark Ronson joked: “I can’t wait til things go back to normal & @realDonaldTrump is just the really successful host of the 14th season of The Apprentice.” Read more music, film and TV reactions to Trump’s controversial comments here.
