British actress Tania Mallet, who is best known for starring in Goldfinger alongside Sean Connery, has died at the age of 77.

The actress portrayed Bond girl Tilly Masterson in Goldfinger. She was hailed by Bond fans after her death was confirmed on Sunday evening.

“We are very sorry to hear that Tania Mallet who played Tilly Masterson in GOLDFINGER has passed away,” the official Bond Twitter account confirmed.

Mallet, the first cousin of Helen Mirren, began working as a model in 1957 aged just 16. It came only seven years before she scored her big acting break in 1964’s Goldfinger.

In the film, she attempts to seek revenge for her sister’s death but ends up losing her life at the hands of Oddjob.

When filming concluded, Mallet went back to the world of modelling.

She once said: “For instance, being forbidden to ride in case I had an accident, not being allowed to go abroad etc.

“Filming had been an interesting experience but I was always more comfortable in a small studio with just the photographer and his assistant.

“Besides which, the restrictions placed on me for the duration of the filming grated were dreadful and I could not anticipate living my life like that. “

Paying tribute, one fan hailed her as “one of the most alluring and razor sharp presences in the Bond universe.”
