'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' failed to win any awards following five nominations
Jared Leto and Reese Witherspoon used last night’s Oscars ceremony as an excuse to meet BB-8, the droid character introduced in recent Star Wars film The Force Awakens.
The 88th Academy Awards took place on Sunday night (February 28) in Los Angeles. Neither Leto nor Witherspoon were nominated for any awards this year, but did manage to take selfies with BB-8 backstage. See those photos beneath.
BB-8 later took to the stage with R2-D2 and C-3PO to pay tribute to John Williams, whose Best Original Score nomination was Star Wars composer John Williams’ 50th Oscar nomination. The 2016 award instead went to Ennio Morricone for his work on Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was nominated for five awards in total this year, but failed to pick up any. The film was shortlisted for Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Film Editing and Best Visual Effects.
