Boardwalk Empire's Terence Winter is writing the script
Jared Leto is set to star in and co-produce an Andy Warhol biopic after acquiring the rights to play the art icon.
Alongside The Social Network and Moneyball producer Michael De Luca, Leto acquired the rights to the 1989 book ‘Warhol: The Biography’ by Victor Bockris.
Boardwalk Empire and The Wolf of Wall Street screenwriter Terence Winter is also working on the film. COS cite that he will use the biography as a starting point for the new feature, which is set to be called ‘Warhol’. A release date is yet to be revealed.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Leto has joined the cast of Blade Runner 2. His role in the currently-untitled sequel is being kept under wraps, Deadline reports, but he is understood to be one of the final actors cast in the film as shooting is due to start next month (September).
After last month’s Suicide Squad, Blade Runner 2 will be only Leto’s second role since his Oscar-winning performance in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club. Leto previously said that staying in character as The Joker on the set of Suicide Squad was “entertaining” for the film’s crew.
Reports from the film’s set claimed that Leto had annoyed fellow cast and crew members by playing Joker-style pranks. But the actor says that those working on the film took it in good humour.
