Jennifer Lawrence has said she wanted to “kill” Harvey Weinstein when she heard about the sexual misconduct allegations made against him.
Last year, women in the entertainment industry started to come forward with claims against the filmmaker, sparking the resurgence of the #MeToo movement, and the founding of the Time’s Up campaign. He has “unequivocally denied” all allegations.
Speaking on 60 Minutes, Lawrence said that Weinstein was “never inappropriate” with her, but she thinks the actions he has been accused of are “criminal and deplorable”.
“When it came out and I heard about it, I wanted to kill him,” she said, as The Hollywood Reporter notes. “The way he destroyed so many women’s lives… I want to see him in jail.”
Weinsteins’s company is reportedly expected to file for bankruptcy after talks to see the company’s assets fell through. The movie mogul was fired from The Weinstein Company last year following the emergence of the allegations against him.
He founded the firm in 2005 alongside his brother, Bob. A deal to sell it for $500 million (£360m) to an investor group proved unsuccessful.
In a statement, the board said the company had been “engaged in an active sale process in the hopes of preserving assets and jobs”. “Today, those discussions concluded without a signed agreement,” the statement read.
