Renner joins Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr and Scarlett Johansson in the sequel
Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye is to appear in the next Captain America film.
He will join Chris Evans’ title character, Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in the sequel, titled Captain America: Civil War, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Shooting is due to start next month (April) with Anthony and Joe Russo returning as directors after also steering the franchise’s second instalment, last year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Chadwick Boseman, the star of last year’s James Brown biopic Get On Up, will also appear in Captain America: Civil War as another iconic superhero, Black Panther. Marvel announced in November that Rush/Inglourious Basterds actor Daniel Brühl has joined the film’s cast too. He is rumoured to be playing the main villain but this has yet to be confirmed.
Following the landmark deal between Marvel and Sony Pictures last month (February), Spider-Man is set to appear in a Marvel movie for the first time, and it is widely expected that the webslinger will make his Marvel debut in Captain America: Civil War, though this has also yet to be confirmed.
Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6, 2016. In the meantime, Renner’s Hawkeye, Johansson’s Black Widow, Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Evans’ Captain America will all be seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opens on May 1 this year.
