Actor pays tribute to "a truly kind and delicate Irish flower" who was "too sensitive for this soil"
Jim Carrey has said that he is “shocked and deeply saddened” by the death of his former girlfriend Cathriona White.
White, 30, who was born in Ireland, was found dead at a residential home in Los Angeles on Monday night. Though the official cause of death has yet to be determined, police have said that evidence at the scene points to a suicide.
White, who worked as a makeup artist in the Los Angeles area, wrote in her final tweet on Friday: “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest.”
Responding to the sad news in a statement, Carrey said: “I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.”
“My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her,” he added. “We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
Carrey and White began dating in 2012 after meeting on a film set. Though the couple split in late 2013, it is understood that they reunited earlier this year before recently parting ways again.
