"There is something else that we'd like to do"
The Cloverfield spin-off 10 Cloverfield Lane has yet to hit cinemas, but the series progenitor JJ Abrams is already hinting at a third film.
The upcoming film has been pitched as a “blood relative” to the 2008 monster flick, and now that The Force Awakens director is done with Star Wars, he might have some free time to actually make it.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Abrams said: “I would be lying if I didn’t say there was something else that, if we’re lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories.
“This is just this movie, and it’s only two films that we’re talking about right now.
“There is something else that we’d like to do, and hopefully we’ll get a shot.”
The new film starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr takes place in an underground shelter.
Mary’s character wakes there after a car accident and is worried she’s been abducted by a survivalist, however he claims that the Earth has been left uninhabitable after a chemical attack.
10 Cloverfield Lane hits UK cinemas on March 18.
