Kathryn Bigelow keen to get project moving after terrorist's recent death

An upcoming film about Osama Bin Laden has signed up its first star, Joel Edgerton.

Director Kathryn Bigelow is thought to be keen to speed up the project, tentatively titled Kill Bin Laden, after the al Qaeda leader was killed in the city of Abbottabad in Pakistan on Monday (May 2).

Edgerton has signed on to play one of an ensemble of male commandos in the movie, reports the LA Times.

The Australian actor has previously starred in films such as King Arthur, Ned Kelly and a couple of the Star Wars prequels.

Kill Bin Laden is set to tell the story of a team of US special forces leaders hunting Bin Laden in the Middle East. Bigelow has declined to comment on the project since Bin Laden‘s death.

However, she is believed to be developing the project with screenwriter Mark Boal, who she worked with on 2008 Oscar-winner The Hurt Locker.
