John Boyega tells ‘Star Wars’ fans shipping Finn and Poe: ‘It’s just a bromance’

Some fans had predicted romance could blossom between the pair in a future movie

John Boyega has confirmed that the relationship between Star Wars characters Finn and Poe Dameron is simply a “bromance”.

Some fans have suggested that romance could blossom between the two characters in future Star Wars instalments, pointing particularly to a scene from The Force Awakens in which Oscar Isaac’s Poe gives Boyega’s Finn his jacket and says: “It looks good on you.”

However, Boyega has now insisted that the relationship is purely fraternal, disappointing fans who have been “shipping” the pair in an interview with Shortlist.

“It’s so not true,” he said. “Oscar [Isaac] wishes it was though, it’s all in his head. It’s a brotherly love, a bromance, that’s for sure.”

Both Boyega’s Finn and Isaac’s Poe Dameron will return in the next Star Wars film, Episode VIII, which is due in 2017. Before then, Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker will star in a spin-off film called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which is set for release on December 16.

Since its release in December, J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens has raked in $1.872 billion (£1.32 billion) at the global box office, making it the third highest-grossing film of all time behind James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic.
