'Kick-Ass' star Aaron Johnson and 'Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston are also negotiating roles
Oscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche is set to join the cast of the new Godzilla movie.
According to Variety, the star of Chocolat and The English Patient is “in negotiations” for a lead role in the reboot. At present, character descriptions and plot details for the film are being kept firmly under wraps.
Earlier this month (February), actress Elizabeth Olsen confirmed she is attached and said of the reboot: “It’s definitely not lighthearted. It’s kind of going back to its roots of the original Japanese film.”
Meanwhile, Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson and Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston are also said to be in talks for roles.
The new Godzilla movie is being helmed by British director Gareth Edwards, who made his name with 2010’s Monsters, an acclaimed sci-fi flick shot for just $500,000 (£308,000). Shooting is due to begin in March and Warner Bros has scheduled the movie for a May 2014 opening.
Godzilla began as an Japanese film franchise that ran for 28 pictures between 1954 and 2004. The giant monster has also starred in comic books, novels, TV series and video games. Independence Day director Roland Emmerich helmed a previous Hollywood remake in 1998, but it was poorly received.
